Managing Sources
Sources are the RSS and Atom feeds that populate your river. Here's how to add, organize, and manage them.
Adding Sources
From a URL
- Go to Settings → Sources
- Tap the + button
- Enter any website URL
- Current automatically finds the RSS/Atom feed
- Tap Subscribe
Direct Feed URL
You can also paste a direct feed URL (ending in .rss, .xml, /feed, etc.). Current recognizes these and subscribes directly.
From Share Sheet (iPhone & iPad)
While browsing Safari or another app, use the Share Sheet to save content to Current. The Share Extension lets you quickly add URLs from any app without switching away.
Source Health
Current tracks the health of each source:
- Healthy: Recent successful fetch
- Stale: Not fetched recently (might be normal for infrequent publishers)
- Warning: Recent errors, but recovered
- Error: Currently failing to fetch
Source Settings
Each source has individual settings:
Pin
Pinned sources appear at the top of your river, ensuring you don't miss important content.
Mute
Muted sources have reduced visibility. Their articles appear less prominently without unsubscribing.
Velocity Override
Override the automatic content velocity detection. Useful if a source is miscategorized.
Archive
Archive a source to keep its history but stop fetching new articles. Useful for sources that have gone inactive but whose content you want to preserve.
Rate Limit
Set a rate limit to control how many articles from a prolific source appear in your river at once.
Mark as Person
Enable this for individual writers to add them to your Voices, collecting their work into a personal collection.
Mark as Webcomic
Enable this for webcomic feeds to use the optimized comic reader, designed for image-heavy sequential content.
Always Fetch Full Content
Some feeds only include truncated excerpts. Enable this to have Current fetch the full article content directly from the source, bypassing truncated feeds.
Removing Sources
- Go to Settings → Sources
- Swipe left on the source
- Tap Delete
Removing a source removes future articles but doesn't delete articles already in your river or Read Later.
Source Cleanup
Current can identify problematic sources:
- Go to Settings → Source Cleanup
- See sources with errors or long inactivity
- Decide which to keep or remove
Organizing with Currents
Use Currents to organize sources into collections:
- A source can belong to multiple Currents
- Switch Currents to filter your river
- See Currents for details
