Accessibility

Current is built with accessibility in mind, supporting VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, and other iOS accessibility features.

VoiceOver

Current fully supports VoiceOver, Apple's screen reader:

  • All interactive elements have descriptive labels
  • Article content is fully accessible
  • Navigation and actions are keyboard-accessible
  • Gestures have VoiceOver alternatives

Dynamic Type

Text throughout Current scales with your system text size preference:

  • All UI text respects Dynamic Type settings
  • Article content in the reader scales appropriately
  • Layouts adapt to larger text sizes

Reader Font Scale

In addition to Dynamic Type, the reader has its own font scale slider for fine-tuning article text size independently.

Reduce Motion

When Reduce Motion is enabled in iOS Settings:

  • Animations are minimized or removed
  • Ambient/breathing animations are disabled
  • Transitions are instant or cross-fade only
  • All functionality remains available

Reduce Transparency

When Reduce Transparency is enabled:

  • Blur effects are replaced with solid backgrounds
  • Contrast is improved
  • Readability is enhanced

High Contrast

Current respects the Increase Contrast accessibility setting:

  • Text-to-background contrast is increased
  • Borders become more visible
  • Interactive elements are more distinct

Color Blindness

Current doesn't rely solely on color to convey information:

  • Icons accompany color indicators
  • Status is communicated through text and shape
  • The accent color is distinguishable across color vision types

Touch Targets

All interactive elements meet minimum size guidelines:

  • Buttons are at least 44×44 points
  • Adequate spacing between targets
  • Gestures have generous recognition zones

Haptic Feedback

Haptic feedback provides non-visual confirmation of actions. For users who cannot see the screen, haptics help confirm that gestures were recognized.

Reporting Issues

If you encounter accessibility issues:

  • Email accessibility@currentreader.app
  • Describe the issue and the assistive technology you're using
  • We take accessibility seriously and will address issues promptly
