Import & Export
Current supports OPML for importing and exporting your subscriptions, making it easy to switch readers or back up your data.
What is OPML?
OPML (Outline Processor Markup Language) is the standard format for sharing RSS subscriptions between readers. Almost every RSS reader supports it.
Importing
From Another Reader
- Export an OPML file from your current reader
- In Current, go to Settings → Sources → Import OPML
- Select your OPML file
- Current imports all subscriptions
From a Sync Service
If your sync service (Feedbin, Newsblur, etc.) provides OPML export, you can use that file to import into Current even if you're not connecting the sync service directly.
Exporting
- Go to Settings → Sources → Export OPML
- Choose where to save the file
- Use the share sheet to send it elsewhere
What's Exported
- All your feed subscriptions
- Feed URLs and titles
- Folder/category organization (as available)
What's Not Exported
- Read/unread status
- Saved articles
- Reading progress
- Current-specific settings (Authors, Currents)
Backup Strategy
To back up your Current data:
- Subscriptions: Export OPML periodically
- Sync service: Your service maintains a backup
- iCloud backup: iOS backs up app data automatically
Migrating to Current
Coming from another reader? Here's the process:
- Export OPML from your old reader
- Import OPML into Current
- Optionally connect a sync service for ongoing sync
- Organize sources into Currents as desired
- Mark individual writers as people to add them to your Library
Troubleshooting
Import Fails
If import fails, check that the OPML file is valid XML. Some readers export malformed files.
Missing Feeds
Some feeds may fail to import if the URLs are no longer valid or the sites have removed RSS support.
Duplicate Feeds
Current detects duplicates by URL and won't import feeds you already have.
